Rego, insurance and big bills

A bill planner for rego, insurance and the other big ones

The bills that hurt are the ones that come once or twice a year. We work out how much to put aside from each pay, so the money’s there when they land.

Why big bills catch people out

A weekly bill is easy to remember. Rego, car insurance, rates and the power bill aren’t, because months pass between them. By the time one lands, the money has gone on something else.

The earlier you start, the smaller the amount. Spread over a year of fortnightly pays, an $890.00 rego is about $34.23 a pay. Leave it until the last three pays and it’s $178.00 a pay. We do that sum for every bill that doesn’t come every pay, from the pays left before it’s due.

How a set-aside works

  1. Add the bill with its due date

Yearly, every 3 months, or whenever it comes. We work out the amount for each pay between now and then.

  2. Move the money each payday

We show the amount. You move it to your savings account and tick it off, and it counts towards its bill.

  3. Pay it when it lands

The money’s already there, and the bill is just another line in that pay.

Questions

Do you move the money for me?

No. We never touch your bank account. We work out the amount, you move it, and you tick it off.

What if I start late?

The amount each pay is worked out from the pays left before the bill is due, so starting later means more each pay. Starting early is the whole trick.

Does it work for bills that come every week?

Yes. Weekly, fortnightly, monthly, every 3 months and yearly bills all sit in the one plan. Set-asides are for the ones that don’t come every pay.

What does the Garage track?

Fuel, services and rego for each vehicle. It works out your real fuel use in litres per 100 km and ties each cost to your budget.
